Aftersun Face Mask

The harsh African sun can be detrimental to our skin – especially here in Durban, but thankfully we can always rely on the natural healing powers of turmeric! The star player in this all-natural aftersun face mask recipe will add a natural glow whilst reducing pigmentation and sun burn. Combined with chickpea (gram/besan) flour it also works as a natural scrub for exfoliating and removing dead cells. Whilst the milk and rose water help sooth and cool hot skin.

Prep Time

Ingredients in bold available at The Spice Emporium.

2 tbs chickpea flour

¼ tsp pure turmeric powder

1 tbs milk

1 tbs pure rose water, chilled

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Apply mixture on a clean face for 20 minutes.
  3. To remove, sprinkle water on the dried areas. Gently scrub with hands or a clean cloth in a clockwise and then anti-clockwise direction. For effective use, apply every two days.

For sensitive skin, test on a small patch of skin first.

Avoid applying the mask on the sensitive under eye area.
