Soya Marinade

Soy vegetarian products (soya, for short) such as burgers and hotdogs, work well straight out the pack. However, if you want to add a punch of flavour (and why wouldn’t you?), we’ve got a simple, yet tasty marinade that’s perfect for soya sausages, burgers and chicken breasts.

Ingredients

All ingredients in bold available at The Spice Emporium

1 tsp ground ginger

1 tsp ground garlic

2 tsp crushed red chilli (adjust according to taste)

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 tsp coriander cumin (dhania jeera) powder

1 tsp Spice Emporium Garam Masala

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp oil

Approx. 400g packet of soya of your choosing

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix together all ingredients except soya.

  2. Add soya pieces to mixture and coat each piece well.

  3. Allow to marinate for 1 hour. For the best flavour, it’s best to marinate overnight in the fridge.

Cooking Instructions

On the Stove

  1. Lightly coat a non-stick pan, with oil or butter and place on medium heat.

  2. When the oil is hot, add soya and cook until edges are browned.

  3. Serve with bread rolls.

On the Braai/BBQ

  1. Lightly coat a foil tray with oil.

  2. Place soya evenly in the tray.

  3. Add generous blobs of butter on top of the soya.

  4. Place on the braai and cook until edges are browned and crispy.

Storage

To store uncooked marinated soya, keep in an airtight container and freeze.
